Redhouse Benevolent Society
Soup Kitchen
In 1936, the women of the Redhouse village grew concerned about the hardships faced by children in the nearby township of Veeplaas. To help, they collected 10 pence per month from each of the approximately 100 households in the Village to purchase milk and oranges for the children. The “Benev” held its first committee meeting in 1938 and has continued its charitable work ever since, though it now faces a shortage of volunteers.
About our actions
Our mission is to improve access to healthy, nutritious food.
Through its actions, the association provides support to low-income populations and benefits the community by fighting hunger and malnutrition.
It offers assistance to those struggling with poverty and works to improve children’s nutrition.
We prioritize the distribution of fruits and vegetables whenever possible.
In addition to poverty, unemployment, and addiction, many township residents lack education on proper nutrition, which contributes to malnutrition and health issues such as diabetes and obesity.
We also strive to promote community solidarity by fostering a sense of care, dignity, and mutual support.
